Departure

After the captain had received his traveling papers, had officially said farewell to the directors of the MCC, and after the pilot had come on board, the ship The Unity was ready to depart with the next favorable winds. At that time, the ship was still berthed at the roadstead of Rammekens, near fort Rammekens, at the Western Scheldt in Zeeland. The crew had a voyage of about two months ahead of them until they arrived at the coast of Africa. During the departure the ship was adjusted for the purpose for which it had left: the trade in enslaved Africans.
