About this project

Zeeland Archives

The archives of the MCC are kept in the Zeeland Archives (“Zeeuws Archief”) in Middelburg, the Netherlands. This governmental institute is deeply involved in several digitization projects in the Netherlands, designed to improve the accessibility of archives to the public.

The Zeeland Archives were built in 2000 and include a new infrastructure and a state of the art archival facility. The storage capacity comprises 15.5 miles (25 kilometres) for hundreds of thousands of documents, pictures and maps. The Zeeland Archives are located in the historic centre of Middelburg.

Experience in Digitization

The Zeeland Archives digitizes archives and collections and publishes them online. The Zeeland Archives started this in 2005 and has since built up a great deal of knowledge and experience.

Major projects such as the digitization of the archives of the MCC are being realized together with Metamorfoze, the National Programme for the Preservation of Paper Heritage. The Metamorfoze programme is situated in the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (National Library of the Netherlands). The program is an initiative of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.
