This eighteenth of april seventeenhundred-and-sixty-three the following appeared before me, Jan Bouman, public notary admitted to the honorable court of Holland, Zeeland and West-Friesland, resident of the city of Middelburg in Zeeland, in the presence of the witnessed mentioned below, Emanuel Hillebrand, clothes’ maker, Pieter Broekaart, cooper’s mate, and Johanna Kant, housewife of the aforementioned Pieter Broekaart, all residents of this city and of competent age, and who have been requested to witness on the truth of the requisition of Teuntje Jongezoon, widow Hermanus Hillebrand, also resident of this city, declare it to be true, that the appellant is the mother of Adriaan Hillebrand of Vere, who in the year seventeenhundred-sixty-one left in the service of the honorable directors of the Commercie Company for het coast of Guinea on the ship The Unity, captain Jan Menkenveld, as master cooper, and on his voyage home, as the appearing party has been informed, had, to all appearance, a deadly accident with the boat.  The deponents declare further that the aforementioned Adriaan Hillebrand at the time of his departure was a young man, unmarried as well as not having brothers or sisters or nephews or nieces or grandchildren or other descendants, of full or part descent, having also no ascendents except those who he left behind or had at the time of his departure, since his father had passed away long before his departure.  With which the deponent finishes her declaration, as reason for her knowledge stating that the inquiring party and her son, aforementioned Adriaan Hillebrand, have known each other for many years, and had conversations with him, further that the deponent has named, seen and respected the aforementioned Adriaan Hillebrand as her son, as well that the aforementioned Adriaan Hillebrand has named, seen and respected the deponent as his mother, and further as mentioned in the tekst, should it be necessary, the deponent will confirm this under oath.

Passed at Middelburg, with Jan Mulder and Lieven Menschaart as witnesses.

Bill of reckoning of Teuntje Jongenson, widow of Arman Illebrand, mother of Adriaan Illebrand, master cooper on the ship The Unity commanded by captain Cornelis Minkevelt of the Commercie Company of Middelburg, who on the voyage home on March 22, 1763  drowned here before het coast to my grievious sorrow. For consumed board of my son, of five voyages, and otherwise helping to fit them out, the sum of five hundred guilders, f 500:0:0, which sum I kindly request the honorable directors of the Commercie Compagnie to pay to my poor and bereaved mother from his still-owed wages and inheritance.
