A young male slave died on the 19th. He was very emaciated and so it seemed that the had a type of tuberculosis and a continuous fever. I prescribe a soft laxative to cleanse the body:

• Pulverized rhubarb ℈ II
• Cream of tartar ℈ I
• F. Purgative [make a laxative]

Additionally I prescribed him an anti-fever (prescription 3), of which I gave him a teacup full three times a day. Upon that the fever appeared to diminish slightly, but, even though he still ate reasonably, I had little hope that he would recover. On the mentioned date, after the slaves had been fed, he had a seizure and was dead that instant.
