First mate’s logbook

At seven o’clock in the morning we raised the anchor and drifted off. At ten o’clock we anchored at the watch-post because we wanted to avoid colliding with the hooker that was anchored there. Then we had rain throughout the day. Our captain came on board with the Letter bag and we were ready to depart. On this day, the two ship’s boys our captain had hired went to shore again, because they had requested this. We received a sailor on board to sail home with us who had been discharged from the ship The Spoorse Galley. We got 9 bags branded DD/G with coffee beans on board. At night at the beginning of the ebb-tide we raised the anchor and drifted till the mouth of the river. At half past nine we anchored at 3 ½ 1 fathom = 6 feet (170 cm)fathoms of mud ground. We had occasional rains throughout the night till morning.
