In the morning we had a light and still NNO wind. Towards the end of the morning watch we raised anchor and set sail, as did the English a sailing vessel with three or more masts; with a square rigged foremast and fore-and-aft rigged main, mizzen and any other masts barquentine, we fired 1 shot. In the forenoon it was calm; we bought 308 pounds of rice. Towards noon there was a gentle and moderate topgallant sail SW breeze. Later it was stormy, with thunder and lightning in the NE. With the start of the first watch we dropped anchor at 21 1 fathom = 6 feet (170 cm) fathoms on muddy ground before the stream anchor. We guessed MarshallLiberia Junk river to be to the N by E of us. The rest of the first watch saw good weather, but with the middle watch it became stormy with thunder and lightning till morning.
