We had a NE by E gentle breeze in the morning. At dawn we gauged Bafu Bay TownLiberiaBaffoe to the NE ½ E and ChomtownLiberiaNewtom to the ENE of us. At the beginning of the forenoon we raised anchor and set sail. We received a canoe on board and bought a boy slave, No. 28. Throughout the afternoon there was a SW by S gentle wind, but mostly calm. We bought a male slave, No. 29. We pitched and applied resin to the outside of the ship. At sundown we dropped anchor at 24 ½ 1 fathom = 6 feet (170 cm)fathoms of dirty ground because of a calm and because the current ran towards the shore; we couldn’t keep the ship from the shore. We had the forest of ButawLiberiaBottewa to the ENE and the corner of the river of  TasoLiberiaTasse to the N by W of us. Throughout the night there was a S by SSE and SSW gentle breeze, but mostly it was calm till morning.
