First mate’s logbook

In the morning the wind came from NE by E and E and was a stiff mainsail breeze. We had high seas. At the end of the morning watch we came about N. During the forenoon we had a decreasing breeze and we put two To reefTo reduce the surface area exposed to the wind.reefs in the top sails. At noon our estimated compound course and sailed distance of the last twenty-four hours was NNW 3 miles, getting on the estimated north latitude 14°36′, longitude 317°7′; we found north latitude to be 14°38′. During the afternoon there was an E double reefed top sail breeze and at the beginning of the dog watches we had an E by N stiff mainsail breeze with heavy squalls. We reefed the mainsails. During the night the weather stayed the same, till morning.
