The wind was a gentle breeze from E in the morning, and we had clouded skies with drizzling rain. We set sail for W and we hit a depth of 11 to 4½ fathom of mud. At noon our estimated compound course and covered distance of the last 24 hours was W by N 25½ miles. Next, we estimated Rio Wiawia to be 3½ miles S of us, at a depth was 4 feet. We sprayed lime juice on the ‘tween decks and on the quarterdeck. During the afternoon and dog watches an average topgallant sail and a fresh topsail breeze came from E to SSE. We had a squally sky with drizzling rain and we got a stiff shower from SSE. We hit a depth of 7 feet and at sundown we decided to anchor because it was so misty and rainy on the shore that we could not see anything through the thick clouds. Today we anchored at 7 feet of mud. Later at night an average topgallant sail breeze came from ESE. Clouded skies and some drizzling rain until the morning.
