In the morning and forenoon the wind was a stiff to average lower sail SW to WSW breeze with occasional rain showers. At sunrise we saw a sail to the south. At noon our estimated compound course and sailed distance of the last twenty-four hours was SE by S 11 miles, which comes down to the estimated north latitude of 47°8′, longitude 10°2′. We found the actual north latitude to be 47°11′. During the afternoon watch and dog watches the wind was between a lower sail and Sail of which the surface area has been reduced two times in order to make the surface area smaller.double reefed topsail breeze coming from between the SW by W and WSW with squally weather, we double To reduce the surface area exposed to the wind.reefed the topsails.
