Atlantic Ocean

First mate’s logbook

It was quiet in the morning and in the forenoon. We put up the new flying jib and used the old one for the perhaps for use as a sun screen or for clothingslaves because it had been used so much already. In the afternoon our estimated compound course and covered distance since noon was W 1 mile. We kept the estimated latitude the same as before, 3°51′, with longitude at 19º20’ and a found latitude of 4º00’. In the afternoon we sprayed lemon juice on the ‘tween decks and in the quarterdeck. We had a gentle breeze from S and later in the evening and at night a gentle and average topgallant sail breeze from the S to SSW. Thick clouds drifted overhead until the morning.
