There was a calm in the morning and forenoon. During the day we saw a ship E by S of us. We put light topsail sheets in the back and front. At noon our estimated compound course and sailed distance of the last twenty four hours was S by W 5 miles, getting on the estimated north latitude of 7º10’ longitude 2º22’ with an actual north latitude of 7º6’. During the afternoon, dog and first watch there was a calm. After The length of the watches was measured using an hourglass filled with sand. Each watch consisted of 8 half-hour glasses, marked by bells.5 glasses in the middle watch had run out we had a gentle breeze NNE. We steered ESE and had good weather till morning.
