We had light NW airs in the morning and forenoon, also calm. We saw a strong swirling currents. The a sailing vessel with three or more masts; with a square rigged foremast and fore-and-aft rigged main, mizzen and any other masts barquentine was SW by S of us. At noon our estimated course and covered distance of the last twenty-four hours was SE 10 miles and we got an estimated north latitude of 7°47’, longitude 1°32’. Our actual north latitude was 8°4’ and our corrected course was ESE covering 7 ½ miles. Throughout the afternoon, dog and first watch we had light airs, calm wind and good weather. During the middle watch there was a NW to NNW wind and a stormy sky with thunder and lightning. It rained till morning.
