First mate’s logbook

Throughout the morning and early afternoon there was a NW gentle topgallant sail breeze and good weather. We reefed the topsail and applied resin to the blocks, the yards, the masts of the mainsail and the bezan rigging, of the after rigging. At noon our estimated compound course and covered distance of the last 24 hours was 22½ miles S, which comes down to the estimated north latitude of 21’25′ and the same longitude as before, 355°5′, with a found north latitude of 21°23′. In the afternoon, evening and night we had a gentle to moderate NW topgallant sail breeze and heavy cloud cover. There was good weather till next morning.
