We had a calm in the morning and forenoon. At the beginning of the day we saw a ship to the NNE of us and in the forenoon we saw another ship to the NNE of us while the calm continued. We scrubbed the cabin and the awning clean of tar and pitch. At noon our estimated compound course and covered distance of the last twenty four hours was O by S ½ S 4 miles. We got an estimated north latitude of 6º54’, longitude 4º and an actual north latitude of 6º50’. Throughout the afternoon and dog watches there were W to SW light airs, we steered ESE. At sunset the sails were still to the NNE. Throughout the night it was gentle and still till morning.
