In the morning the wind came from the WSW to the S, and was completely still most of the time. When The length of the watches was measured using an hourglass filled with sand. At noon our estimated compound course and covered distance of the last twenty-four hours was SW by S ½ S 11 ½ miles coming down to the estimated North latitude 48°9′, Longitude  8°6′. We found the actual North latitude to be 47°43′. In the afternoon the wind increased. During the first watch and the middle watch the wind came from the S with storm and a high sea. When four glasses in the middle watch had run out we attached the main sail. We let the ship drift without any sails due to storm and heavy weather. So much water entered the ship that we had to pump more than 300 times in a time period of 4 hours (or one watch) to have the ship free from water. The coat around the rudder got detached so that we had a lot of water flowing into the gunroom. We also lost our boom at starboard, and two lanterns. The situation remained like this until morning.
