First mate’s logbook

In the morning and forenoon there was an average reefed topsail breeze from SE with a squally sky. At noon our estimated compound course and sailed distance of the last twenty-four hours was north northeast and 16½ miles, which comes down to the estimated 26°3′ north latitude and 316°34′ longitude. We found the actual north latitude to be 26°10′ and steered NE. During the afternoon watch, the dog watches and the first watch there was a topgallant sail breeze and drifting clouds. During dog watches we had a fresh reefed topsail breeze with strong squalls of wind and rain till morning.
