First mate’s logbook

An average topgallant sail breeze came from SE in the morning and forenoon, and the sky was hazy. We filled 5 barrels in the hold with salt water. At noon our estimated compound course and covered distance of the last 24 hours was W½Z 26½ miles, with an estimated south latitude of 0º18’, longitude of 2º16′ and we found the actual south latitude to be 0º5′. We set sail for W by S. The wind was a gentle topgallant sail breeze from SE during the afternoon, evening and night. We had good weather until the morning.
