First mate’s logbook

In the morning and forenoon the wind came from E by N and NNE and E and was a Sail of which the surface area has been reduced two times in order to make the surface area smaller.double-reefed topsail breeze and a weak topgallant sail breeze or a weak topsail breeze. The weather was good. We took the reefs from the top sails. At noon our estimated compound course and sailed distance of the last twenty-four hours was N½W 17 miles, getting on the estimated north latitude of 21°22’, longitude 316°29’, with a found north latitude of 21°20’. During the afternoon the wind came from E by N and was a topsail breeze and a stiff double-reefed topsail breeze. We to reefTo reduce the surface area exposed to the wind.put reefs in the top sails. During the dog watches we had heavy squalls; we took in the top sails and our topmast stay sail broke completely. At night we had more heavy squalls from the E by N and ENE, till morning.
