First mate’s logbook

In the morning the breeze decreased. The see was high and the weather was good at forenoon. The breeze continued to decrease. We Sail of which the surface area has been reduced two times in order to make the surface area smaller.double reefed the main sails and the topsails and steered the ship NE by E. The wind was a weak and stiff double reefed topsail breeze coming from the NW. The sky was clouded. At noon our estimated compound course and sailed distance of the last twenty-four hours was SE by S¼S 8½ miles, which comes down to the estimated 43°9′ north latitude and 349°33′ longitude. During the afternoon watch and dog watch, the wind was a double reefed topsail breeze to mainsail breeze coming from the WNW to SSW. We to reefTo reduce the surface area exposed to the wind.reefed the topsails. With the start of the dog watches we steered towards the NE. During the night there was a SW wind with heavy, clouded skies and heavy squalls of rain, wind, hail and lightning all around, till morning.
