First mate’s logbook

In the morning and forenoon we had rain and rainy skies. The boat came back on board with water. In the afternoon, with the high tide, we raised the anchor of which the rope had broken, then put the old end back: we found that it had only broken 1 ½ 1 fathom = 6 feet (170 cm)fathoms from the knot, so we re-inserted the end bit and used it to more the ship again before the ebb tide. During the evening and night the weather was good until morning.
