First mate’s logbook

In the morning the wind was a decreasing breeze coming from between the N and NNW and a squally sky. In the forenoon the wind came from the NW by W, the weather was still squally. We Sail of which the surface area has been reduced two times in order to make the surface area smaller.double reefed the main sail and the topsails. At noon our estimated compound course and sailed distance of the last twenty-four hours was NE by E¾E 16 miles, which comes down to the estimated 40°31′ north latitude and 343°41′ longitude. We found the actual north latitude to be 40°3′. During the afternoon, evening, and night, the wind was a stiff double reefed topsail breeze coming from the WNW directed to the WZW. The weather was still squally, with stiff breezes and rain until morning.
