In the morning and forenoon there was a weak and average topgallant sail ESE to ENE breeze and good weather. At sunrise we saw the island MartiniqueWindward IslandsMartenico at an estimated 9 miles west of us. At noon our estimated compound course and sailed distance of the last twenty-four hours was N by E½E 10 ½ miles, getting on the estimated north latitude of 13°53′ longitude 317°10′; we found north latitude to be 13°37′. During the afternoon and dog watches the wind came from E, also ENE and again E. At sunset we saw an empty barrel drifting, and we also saw land: DominicaWindward IslandsDommenica in the WNW½W at an estimated 8 miles. During first and middle watch we had a topsail E by N and ESE breeze. We had high seas till morning.
