First mate’s logbook

In the morning we had an ESE gentle breeze and good weather. At dawn we raised anchor and drifted down till half past 6. We anchored in front of the plantation of master Spoor at 4 ½ 1 fathom = 6 feet (170 cm) fathoms. Before noon, with the high tide we moored the ship with the kedge anchor against the tide. In the afternoon we received 8 barrels of sugar on board, 4 of which were marked EFP and 4 marked IC. With sundown the ship Spreewenburg, commanded by captain Jan Lizeer of Angola, boarded with slaves, dropped anchor beside us. We fired 5 shots. Throughout the night and till morning the weather remained good.
