In the morning the wind was a stiff Sail of which the surface area has been reduced two times in order to make the surface area smaller.double reefed topsail breeze coming from the SW by W. There were stiff squalls with wind and drizzling rain. When 5 The length of the watches was measured using an hourglass filled with sand. Each watch consisted of 8 half-hour glasses, marked by bells.glasses had run out, we experienced a heavy squall with gusts of wind coming from the SW by W to NNW. We reefed the topsails. In the forenoon the sea was high. At noon our estimated compound course and sailed distance of the last twenty-four hours was ENE ½ N 28 ½ miles, which comes down to the estimated 39°49′ north latitude and 333°00′ longitude. During the afternoon watch and the dog watches the wind was a decreasing breeze coming from the NNW to N by W. We put two reefs in the topsails. During the night the wind remained the same, with sometimes a gentle breeze and heavy squalls. The sea remained high until morning.
