First mate’s logbook

In the morning and forenoon we had showers. The wind was a gentle breeze from SW en also NE. At noon our estimated compound course and sailed distance of the last twenty-four hours was N by E 4½ miles, coming down to the estimated north latitude of 7º58′, longitude 319º44′, we found the actual north latitude to be 7º29′, so that we were 29′ more south than estimated. During the afternoon watch and dog watches the wind was a gentle breeze from ESE by E and the weather was good. During first and middle watch it was quiet, this stayed the same till morning.
