In the morning and forenoon there was a Sail of which the surface area has been reduced two times in order to make the surface area smaller.double reefed topsail NW breeze and squally skies with heavy squalls of rain and wind. We saw several ships with and opposite us. At noon our estimated compound course and sailed distance of the last twenty-four hours was S by W 12 miles, which comes down to the estimated north latitude of 46°24′, longitude 9°48′. We steered to the SW. In the afternoon there was a lower sail breeze and we furled the topsails. During the middle watch we still had a stiff lower sail NW breeze with some hard rain squalls. At the outset of the first watch we attached the main sail. During the night we left it in front of the foresail until morning.
