In the morning with the day we put up the topsails with one reef. The wind was an ENE to ESE reefed topsail breeze. With the sunrise we estimated the land NNW at a guessed distance of 5 ½ miles. In the forenoon the sky was overcast and there was a stiff single reefed topsail breeze. We saw several ships lying with and against us. At noon our estimated compound course and sailed distance of the last twenty-four hours was east 6 ½ miles, coming down to the same estimated north latitude as before and the longitude 9°47′. According to the estimations this comes to a longitude of 12°00′, which means that we found ourselves to be 2°13′ or 23 miles more to the east than we had estimated. In the afternoon the wind was a SE stiff Sail of which the surface area has been reduced two times in order to make the surface area smaller.double reefed topsail breeze with squally skies. Through the night the wind was SE with heavy, stormy squalls of wind, rain, hail and snow and dark skies till morning.
