First mate’s logbook

During the day the weather was good. We dried the sails and sent the boat to fetch water. We received 6 HogsheadUnit of volume of 222 Middelburgse jugs (1 jug = 1,25 liters.) hogsheads and 2 half hogsheads with sugar on board. 4 Hogsheads and 2 halves were branded SP/# and 2 hogsheads were branded C:I:H. A barrel lime juice was branded CIH. Then in the evening and night we had squally skies with wind and heavy rains. During the first watch our ebb tide rope broke but we remained anchored. Ebb tide was gone as we found ourselves at 12 feet of water and later, with high tide at 17 feet, which was a spring tide. Then we had heavy rains till morning.
