First mate’s logbook

In the morning and the forenoon there was a SSE to ESE Sail of which the surface area has been reduced two times in order to make the surface area smaller.double reefed topsail breeze and squally skies with rain. At noon our estimated compound course and sailed distance of the last twenty-four hours was E by N 15 ½ miles, arriving at an estimated north latitude of 49°13′, longitude 2°54′. We came about S. In the afternoon and dog watches there was a ESE to NNE double reefed topsail- to a stiff mainsail breeze and squally skies with rain, topsails furled; we steered E by N. At night we had a stiff mainsail breeze with squally skies and rain and a NW wind till morning.
