In the morning and forenoon it was mostly quiet. We sprayed with lime juice on the ‘tween decks and on the quarterdeck. At noon our estimated compound course of the last 24 hours was WSW½W 6½ miles, with an estimated north latitude of 1º15’, longitude 14º3’ and we found the actual north latitude to be 1º17’. The wind was a gentle to topgallant sail breeze from SSW to S by W in the afternoon. The sky was squally, and during the dog watches we had an increasing to weak topsail breeze and also a single-reefed topsail breeze. We reduced the surface area exposed to the windreefed the topsails. The sky was squally and the wind came from S. We came about WSW. Later at night we had an average topsail breeze from S. Thick, clouded skies until the morning.
