At noon our estimated compound course and sailed distance of the last twenty-four hours was ZW by S ½ S 19 ½ miles, which comes down to the estimated north latitude of 43°15′ , longitude 5°13′. We found the actual north latitude to be approximately 43°5′. During the afternoon watch and dog watch, there was a double reefed topsail breeze coming from the SW by W and WSW. The sky was cloudy, we saw 4 other ships. During the first watch, we had a SW wind but when The length of the watches was measured using an hourglass filled with sand.
