In the morning the wind decreased, even though the weather remained squally. We set out lower sails again. We saw several ships with us. In the forenoon the wind was as before, with hard rain squalls. At noon our estimated compound course and sailed distance of the last twenty-four hours was S ½ W 10 ½ miles, which comes down to the estimated north latitude of 44°34′, longitude 9°2′. We found the actual latitude to be 44°39. We saw a floating unit of volumehogshead barrel. During the afternoon watch and dog watches we had a stiff lower sail breeze coming from the WSW by W and also from the NW. With the change to the first watch we turned northwards. During the first watch and the middle watch there was a stiff lower sail WNW breeze with heavy squalls. At the end of the dog watches we came about SW. The situation remained like this until morning.
