We had a moderate topgallant sail ENE breeze throughout the morning and early afternoon with heavy cloud cover, we took in the mainsail, and the fore tacks and sheets. At noon our estimated compound course and covered distance of the last twenty-four hour was S 30 miles, getting on the estimated north latitude of 26°11′ longitude same as previous, 355°5′, with a roughly found north latitude of 26°9′; we headed S. During the afternoon watch and dog watches the E to ENE wind varied between a moderate foresail sail breeze to a topgallant sail breeze under a heavy cloud cover. We reefed the topsail. The length of the watches was measured using an hourglass filled with sand. Each watch consisted of 8 half-hour glasses, marked by bells.7 glasses into the after noon we saw a sail in SW direction from us. Throughout the rest of the day we had a moderate topgallant sail ENE breeze and good weather till morning.
