During the morning watch the weather calmed down a little. We set the mainsail again with one A portion of a sail rolled and tied down to lessen the area exposed to the wind.reef. In the forenoon there was a WSW wind with a storm and a clouded sky. We saw two other ships. At noon our estimated compound course and covered distance of the last twenty-four hours was N by W 9 miles coming down to the estimated North latitude 48°35′, longitude 6°46′ with a roughly found actual North latitude of  48°12′ . We had a WSW wind with quite  a storm. During the dog watches we brailed up the sail and attached it. We raised a storm foresail behind the main mast and remained there. During the night we experienced a heavy storm with occasional drizzling rain until morning.
