In the morning and forenoon there was a lower sail breeze coming from the WSW to the W by N. with a squally sky with rain. We saw five ships.  At noon our estimated compound course and covered distance of the last twenty-four hours was W by S 1/3 S 7 ½ miles coming down to the estimated North latitude  48°50′, Longitude 8°39′. During the afternoon watch and dog watches we had a lower sail W to NW breeze. In the night there was a decreasing breeze coming from the NW to WNW. We set our mainsails and removed a A portion of a sail rolled and tied down to lessen the area exposed to the wind.reef from them. We had a squally sky with drizzling rain till morning.
