At dawn we put up our topmasts and yards. The wind was a NW to NNW gentle breeze and we had good weather [in the margin: our top rope broke 3 times]. Throughout the day the wind was NNW and NW. We put the sheet anchor on the gunwale. In the afternoon our captain came on board with a pilot to guide us out and a hawser for the topsail ropes. Several ships left and entered port here. We had good weather at night, and at 12, with calm waters, we raised anchor and set sail and were towed out against the high tide with a NW wind until the morning.
